Sora 2 Is Shut Down. What to Use Instead

OpenAI has shut down Sora 2. The sora.com app went offline on 26 April 2026, and the API stopped working on 24 September 2026. There is no successor. If you were looking for a Sora 2 course, below you will find what actually works in its place, and what of it is in the KursVideoAI course.

The Sora 2 shutdown in three dates

  1. 24 March 2026

    OpenAI announces the Sora shutdown

    Deprecation for the app and the API, with no replacement model named.

  2. 26 April 2026

    The app closes

    sora.com and the mobile apps are shut down. Sora also disappears from ChatGPT Plus and Pro.

  3. 24 September 2026

    The API closes

    The sora-2 and sora-2-pro models (with dated snapshots) and the Videos API are switched off. Platforms that relied on that API stop working too.

What this means for you: every workflow, template, or client offer built on Sora now needs a different model. The good news: the way you write prompts (person, scene, camera, lighting, dialogue) carries over almost unchanged. What changes is mainly clip length and pricing.

    Check that every Sora 2 clip you need is saved on your drive. After a model is switched off, platforms do not guarantee access to old generations.

    Same scenes, same avatar, Veo 3 Fast and Quality. Compare lip-sync and image so you know where the difference matters.

    Split scripts into 8-second pieces

    Keep the hook in the dialogue and put the CTA in a caption. Break longer shots into 2-3 clips and stitch them in CapCut, or lengthen a clip with Veo extend.

That is why the Sora shutdown does not invalidate any chapter: you build the projects, prompts, and templates on Veo 3, and wherever Sora was an alternative, you have a ready replacement path.

FAQ

Common questions about Sora 2 and the course

Does Sora 2 still work?
No. OpenAI announced the Sora discontinuation on 24 March 2026. The sora.com app and the mobile apps ran until 26 April 2026, and the API with the sora-2 and sora-2-pro models (together with the Videos API) until 24 September 2026. You can no longer generate a new Sora 2 clip, neither in ChatGPT nor through the API.
Can I still use Sora 2 through fal.ai or another platform?
No. Platforms such as fal.ai or Kie.ai offered Sora through the OpenAI API, and that API was shut down on 24 September 2026. The model was never released to run on your own hardware, so there is no remaining route to new generations.
What replaces Sora 2?
OpenAI did not name a successor: the replacement column in its deprecations list is empty. The closest option today is Google's Veo 3 (native audio, dialogue, good lip-sync). For motion-heavy scenes without dialogue Kling works well, and for free on your own GPU there is LTX.
Is the course still current if it used to cover Sora?
Yes. The foundation of the course is Veo 3, and Sora 2 was described from the start as an option "while it lasts", with the API shutdown date. Chapter 6 has a separate section on migrating from Sora 2 to Veo 3, and the projects, prompts, and templates run on Veo 3.
Will my Sora 2 prompts work in Veo 3?
The structure will: person and scene description, camera movement, lighting, dialogue in quotes. The difference is length. Veo 3 gives you up to 8 seconds per generation (longer shots through extend), so in the dialogue you keep the hook, and the CTA goes in as a CapCut caption. Longer scenes are split into 2-3 clips and stitched together. The course walks you through it step by step.
How much does a Sora replacement cost?
Based on the course price list (May 2026, converted from PLN), an 8-second clip in Veo 3 Fast via Kie.ai costs about $0.30, Veo 3 Quality about $1.30, and Veo 3 Standard/Pro on fal.ai about $3.40. A $5 top-up is enough to get started. Platform prices change, so check the current price list before a bigger project.
Is the course a PDF or video?
PDF + Discord. 168 pages of the main course, a 12-page workbook, and a 48-page prompt bank. Plus a private Discord community where I post updates when tools change (as with the Sora shutdown). Lifetime access.
Do I get access right after purchase?
Yes. After payment (Stripe, card, Apple Pay, Google Pay) an email with 3 PDF files and a Discord invite arrives within 1-2 minutes. If it does not, write to kontakt@kursvideoai.pl and I will send it manually.
Can I get a refund if it is not for me?
The course is digital content sent by email right after payment. At checkout you agree to immediate delivery, so the right of withdrawal expires once the PDF is delivered (Art. 38 of the Polish Consumer Rights Act).
